Mechanical Trailer Steering System

TRIDEC TF-V Mechanical Steering System

  • Mechanical
  • Steered Axle
  • Mechanical steering for trailers with king-pin steered axles
  • Steers 1, 2 or 3 axles on a 1- to 5-axle trailer
  • Direct, play-free steering via the fifth wheel unit and steering rods
  • 10 t axle load; 15 / 20 / 26.5 t fifth wheel load
  • Steering angles up to 40° (the axle is the limiting factor)
  • TF-V gooseneck and lightweight TF-D versions available

Built for King-Pin Steered Axles

The TF steering system is mainly installed when space for the large wheel movement of turntable steering systems is limited, such as on concrete mixers, semi-low-loaders and exceptional designs. It combines an affordable and reliable mechanical steering system with the packaging advantages of a king-pin steered axle.

  • Concrete mixers, semi-low-loaders and exceptional designs
  • One, two or three steered axles, optionally combined with rigid axles
  • TF-V for semi-low-loaders, matched to the shape of the gooseneck
  • TF-D lightweight system for flatbed trailers with a single steered axle

Designed for Better Manoeuvrability

Superior manoeuvrability in confined spaces

  • Steers 1, 2 or 3 axles on a 1- to 5-axle trailer
  • Can be combined with one or more rigid axles
  • Steering angles up to 40°, with the axle as the limiting factor
  • Easier inner-city deliveries and small roundabouts on urban roads
  • More efficient trailer use through improved manoeuvrability

Lower operating costs

  • Time through better manoeuvrability
  • Fuel consumption
  • Tyre wear
  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Vehicle damage

Direct, play-free mechanical steering

  • Motion via the fifth wheel plate and TRIDEC steering wedge
  • One or two steering rods transmit movement to the rear axle-units without play
  • Axle-units steer the king-pin axles via track rods
  • Fifth wheel loads 15 / 20 / 26.5 t; 10 t axle load
  • RDW test report per EEC R79 for common TF configurations up to 3 steered axles (no. 56210113)
  • JOST turntable with TRIDEC spline bolts — no re-tightening required
  • Maintenance-free ball joints and steering rod supports against bending and chattering

Flexible versions and easy installation

  • TF-V: fifth wheel unit length and transfer lever height designed to match the gooseneck
  • TF-D: rectangular steering bar links the fifth wheel unit directly to the axle-unit, from 310 kg
  • TF-D suits extra low trailer necks; versions TD-K, TD-T and TD-G
  • Chassis centres 980 / 1,200 mm (15 and 20 t) or 1,060 mm (26.5 t)
  • Mounting profiles welded into the chassis for simple, quick installation
  • ‘Sealed for life’ bearings; easy alignment via adjustable rod length
  • KTL-treated axle-units; galvanised steering rods
