Mechanical Trailer Steering System

TRIDEC TD-X Mechanical Steering System

  • Mechanical
  • Rigid Axle
  • Mechanical steering for distribution transport on three-axle trailers
  • Steers the front and rear axle in opposite directions
  • Allows a longer axle distance so the tractor’s driven axle is not overloaded
  • Direct, play-free steering via the fifth wheel unit, steering bar and transfer lever
  • 10 t axle load; 15 / 20 t fifth wheel load
  • Steering angles from 13° to 30°
  • TD-XD lightweight and TD-XDT tank versions available

Built for Three-Axle Distribution Trailers

The TD-X steering arrangement is a mechanical system used primarily in distribution transport. It makes it possible to increase the axle distance of a three-axle trailer so the driven axle of the tractor will not be overloaded, even when the trailer is only partially loaded. It results in a great reduction of tyre wear and fuel costs.

Superior manoeuvrability for three-axle trailers

  • Steers the front and rear axle of a three-axle trailer
  • Front and rear axle steer in opposite directions
  • Steering angles between 13° and 30°
  • Ability to negotiate small roundabouts on urban roads
  • More efficient trailer use through improved manoeuvrability
  • Longer axle distance keeps the tractor’s driven axle from overloading on partial loads

Lower operating costs

  • Tyre wear
  • Fuel consumption
  • Time through better manoeuvrability
  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Vehicle damage

Direct, play-free mechanical steering

  • Motion via the fifth wheel plate and TRIDEC steering wedge
  • Steering bar transmits the motion without play to a transfer lever
  • Steering rods steer the axle mounting frames of the front and rear axle
  • Fifth wheel loads 15 / 20 t; 10 t axle load (legally approved)
  • RDW test report per EEC R79 on request (no. 56210101)
  • JOST turntable with TRIDEC spline bolts — no re-tightening required
  • Patented ‘sealed for life’ bearings on the steering bar

Flexible fit and easy installation

  • TD-X: gross weight upon 915 kg with transfer lever
  • TD-XD: no transfer lever, upon 780 kg, steering angles 19° to 30°
  • TD-XDT Tank: fifth wheel unit bolted directly to the tank, 775 kg, 24°
  • Fifth wheel unit versions TD-K, TD-T and TD-G; spring centre 1,200 mm
  • Axle mounting frame height 100 or 140 mm; JOST turntable Ø1,100 or 1,200 mm
  • Mounting profiles welded into the chassis; centralised greasing block
  • Optional mudguard supports and galvanised axle mounting frames
